In this new series, I’ll be introducing you to a new Oracle or Tarot reader every month. You’ll meet them at the beginning of the month and later in the month, you’ll get a reading in the group from them!
Kerin is a fellow projector according to human design and an inspiring entrepreneur. I have known Kerin for several years and followed her work as she has developed her business, Stars in Her Eyes. So she was, of course, my first choice to ask for an interview as I love her readings in Tarot and Astrology.
Kerin Monaco is a modern mystic who supports women in unlocking their divinity, rising into their purpose, and understanding their spiritual evolution through the use of sacred tools. She is using this lifetime to learn unconditional love and support others in their spiritual awakening. She lives in Florida with her daughter and dog, Sebastian. In her spare time, she can be found in bed, reading an amazing book, with a chai latte.
How did you get into reading oracle/angel/tarot cards?
When I began divorce proceedings in 2017 I realized how limited my social circle was and how alone I felt. I had no family or close friends nearby. I started to look through Facebook events and saw something that was called “Paint Your Inner Goddess.” I went to see if I could meet some women who were into yoga and meditation the way I was. The workshop used Doreen Virtue’s Goddess Oracle Deck. I was fascinated by the cards and I think I even ordered my own set before I left for the night. Once they came, I pulled a Goddess every day. From there I explored more decks and took a course that used the Rider-Waite Tarot. That’s how I began to “officially” read the cards.
What drew you to them? Did you get readings first, or just get started reading them yourself?
I had been reading cards for myself and other people for almost a year before I got had a reading done for myself. I started out reading the cards quite practically. I didn’t believe in spirit guides or angels in the beginning. I wasn’t someone who paid attention to the mystical side of them. I had just gone through a break-up and saw there was a Tarot reader at a festival I was attending. I paid to have a reading done for the first time. Her reading was so spot on and spiritual in nature, that I felt myself as a reader crack open. In that moment, I saw just how much the Divine connected to us through the cards. It was a tangible way for Spirit to reach out and shine their light on us. I had such peace after that reading and have used my cards and readings in a similar way since that day.
How long have you been reading for others?
Professionally, I have been using cards to read people for about 18 months. I recently learned that I’ve been doing this work for many lifetimes though.
Who is your typical client?
I love sitting with women who have experienced some kind of loss. Whether they are coping with the loss of a person, sense of self, purpose, or job, I know that these women are choosing to show themselves to me when they are most vulnerable. I don’t take that lightly. I have a lot of respect for someone who is willing to be seen in their moment of darkness. My Masters in Social Work and understanding of the Shadow help me to be present and unafraid of working with these women. I love reading with them and finding their light and building their faith in the unseen.
What has been the hardest part about getting started with this business/industry?
While there are thousands of card readers out there, I have had to find what makes me the reader I am. This has come with a lot of soul searching and digging into my strengths. Once you find those strengths, you also recognize you can’t read for everyone. You need to find the people who need your specific style and personality.
What is your favorite deck?
I will always have a soft spot for Doreen Virtue’s Goddess Oracle Deck however; the deck that seems to just know things is Moonology by Yasmin Boland. Due to the power of this deck in my life, I actually only use it sporadically. I think it is because I go there when I “need” it that maintains its energy and accuracy.
How did others in your life take it? Do you feel that you lost people, gained people, or just found your true connections in the process?
I have lost a lot of people in my life on this journey. I have formed a lot of connections that are soul-deep through it as well. The deeper I dig into my history, I find that people are returning home to me. I may not have seen them for many lifetimes but I am reuniting with my tribe through this path. It is this meeting of “old friends” that reminds me that you may not be losing someone forever. It could just be for a time.
What do people ask you all the time?
People always ask me if I’m going to predict their future and more specifically their death. I always tell them that there are no bad cards and there is no prediction within the way I read Tarot. Tarot is merely used as a way to show you potential and possibilities. We always have free will. In any given moment, an action we take can change the trajectory of our path. Tarot can inform your next action and offer outcomes to consider.
