Create Your Own Angel Cards

The Violet Flame

The Making of: The Violet Flame Card #12

I want to tell you the story of how I create each of my cards. Think of this as my Guidebook to my personal deck of cards. As I create new ones, I’ll share more stories. You’ve got at least 22 weeks of stories coming your way, one each week. The majority of my cards are created in Inktense pencils on watercolor paper and these are their creation stories.

The Violet Flame

Transmutation

If you’ve been feeling negative, if you’ve been in a bad mood, it’s time to heal. Get quite, visualize the Violet Flame flowing all around your body. You’re surrounded in violet, in high vibes, in good energy, in healing energy. It’s time to transmute negative emotions. Embrace them, get to know them, learn from them, but don’t hold on to them. Let the negativity flow right out of you letting it be replaced by Violet.

The Inspiration and Meaning of this Card

I was at a holistic expo and had an aura photo done. It’s a unique experience. You place your hand on this little device that reads your energy. In the end, you get a picture of the different colors that appear in your aura. I’m a yellow-green aura, at least on that day. The interesting part of this reading though was that my crown chakra was violet. The woman doing the reading said that while most people have white up there, it’s the healers who have purple. She told me of the Violet flame and it’s connection to St. Germain. The Violet Flame is here for us to use to heal ourselves through transmutation. Say you’re in a bad mood, you can visualize the energy of the violet flame surrounding you, burning away the negative energy. You’ve just transmuted your bad mood into a good one, or at least into a calm on.
I created this card to remind me of that flame, of that energy, and of that gift that we can access when needed.

Falcon - Card #8

The Making of: The Falcon, Card #8

I want to tell you the story of how I create each of my cards. Think of this as my Guidebook to my personal deck of cards. As I create new ones, I’ll share more stories. You’ve got at least 22 weeks of stories coming your way, one each week. The majority of my cards are created in Inktense pencils on watercolor paper and these are their creation stories.

The Falcon

Trust your instincts. Feel it in your body, notice how you feel with each choice, each opportunity. Get crystal clear on your vision, on what you desire. Once you make your choice, commit, fully dive into it and experience every moment. Know you’re on the right track.

The Inspiration and meaning of this Card

This is one of my earliest cards. I wasn’t taking notes on each one as I went then, but I know how often falcons fly around here. I know that animals come to me as I’m driving in real life and in visions while I sleep. Falcons are signs of needing to step back, look at the full picture, each of the options. The part that has stood out to me, is seeing that they are a sign of feeling into your body – the emotions and feels that come up when making a decision.
I’ve created this card with my Inktense pencils. While many of these cards are quick, one layer drawings, I took more time with this one. It’s several layers with drying time in-between. Sometimes it’s nice to take a little extra time with a card because I love the process and because animal portraits are my favorite!

The Scales - Card 7

The Making of: The Scales, Card #7

I want to tell you the story of how I create each of my cards. Think of this as my Guidebook to my personal deck of cards. As I create new ones, I’ll share more stories. You’ve got at least 22 weeks of stories coming your way, one each week. The majority of my cards are created in Inktense pencils on watercolor paper and these are their creation stories.

The ScalesGoddess Ma’at – Balance

What is out of balance in your life right now? How can you adjust the scales to bring things back into balance? Connect with your deepest desires, and realign with them. This may require some shifting of priorities, but it’s important to care for yourself.  When you do this, make sure you tell the people that need to know, don’t hide your plan or your needs. The balance you seek won’t come if you’re only balancing when it’s convenient for others.

The Inspiration and meaning of this Card

The Goddess Ma’at was my guiding Goddess for a month earlier this year. She was pulled for me by my friend, Kerin, for one of her groups. Ma’at fit well for me that month. She is the Egyptian Goddess of justice, harmony, and balance. She weighed the soul on the scales opposite a feather. This is what we must do in our lives. Weigh the things we have on our to-do list against our values, our desires. We must determine what we actually need to be doing, and what is just really out of balance. When we have clarity, we can adjust. But first, we must become aware. When I pull this card, I know that it’s time to look at what I’m doing, how I feel when I’m doing it and adjust.

How to Create Your Own Oracle Cards

It's been over a year now that I've been creating my own cards and I want to share with you a bit about my process.

Tools

These are the tools that I use, which you can gather yourself, or pre-order my Oracle Card Kit here.

  • Watercolor Paper
  • Watercolor Pencils
  • Waterbrush or paintbrush with a dish of water

Intention setting

Before I meditate, I'll set the intention that I am open to receiving a message. If you have a particular situation you want to resolve, or something you know you need reminders about, your intention could involve asking to receive guidance on that subject. A couple of examples:

My intention for this session is to be open to the guidance from my Angels. This session will help me hear the message for my first card and visualize the card.

My intention is to be open to guidance from my Angels regarding _______. Through this meditation, I'll receive the messages I need to resolve this situation and the message for my first card.

Short meditation

Next, I'll meditate. Sometimes I'll do a guided meditation, and sometimes I'll just get quiet and calm and see what comes through. Many times now the messages will appear in day to day life, but when I first started, it was always with a meditation.

What message came thru the meditation. Use this asWhen the meditation is over, write down everything you heard, saw, felt, experienced through it. It doesn't have to have great grammar or make sense to anyone. Just get it all down on paper quickly. In the next step, you'll get to write a more coherent message. If you saw images, you can make quick sketches, or describe them. Include the colors, shapes and anything else that you remember about them.

Story writing

Now is the time to get clear on the message and create your card's story. Here are some questions that I ask myself when creating a card.

  • What message came through to me?
  • Why did that message appear now?
  • What am I meant to learn from this?
  • Is there a time when I experienced this before?
  • Did this appear in a dream?
  • What happened then?
  • What should I feel when I see this card?
  • What might be happening in my life when I pull this card in the future?

After I've answered some questions like these and journaled about it, I start writing a message. This is a message that would be great for me to hear anytime. Think of a guidebook you've looked at from other decks.

How to use the tools

If you're using the pencils I have, Derwent Inktense, then you'll start by drawing the image you came up with on your card. I use watercolor paper by Fabriano Artistico because it holds up to all the water.

You'll want to do all of the drawing work first before you introduce water. I generally go over with a few layers of pencil because I love color! When everything is drawn out, it's time for the water! I use an Aquaflow brush because it makes it super easy. I use the brush as I would with paint, following the lines, and use the water to create lines, and patterns if necessary. It's a pretty magical process once the water is added. Finally, I let it dry for a while before adding it to the rest of my deck for use.

Hawthorne Tree

The Making of: Hawthorne Tree – Card #4

I want to tell you the story of how I create each of my cards. Think of this as my Guidebook to my personal deck of cards. As I create new ones, I’ll share more stories. You’ve got at least 22 weeks of stories coming your way, one each week. The majority of my cards are created in Inktense pencils on watercolor paper and these are their creation stories.

Hawthorne Tree
Nematona – Sacred Spaces

Connect with Nematona through sacred space. You have all the answer you need inside yourself, sometimes they just get lost in the chaos. Now is the time to root down outside, experience the beauty and magick the world has to offer. Learn to create that sacred space inside, your house and your own self. Root, Wild Heart, Root.

The Inspiration of this Card

I received a Goddess of the year from my friend Kerin, and so far, it couldn’t be more accurate. Reading the 2019 Goddess Report she created for me, I knew that I was connected to Nematona, and I knew that during some times of this year, I might need a reminder. She’s all about creating sacred space in nature.
I used the Hawthorne Tree because when doing research, found that Nematona was connected through the Hawthorne trees, which is shown here on the card.

The Meaning of the Hawthorne Tree

The tree shows the light and the dark, yin/yang, masculine/feminine. It has beautiful flowers but contains thorns. It is highly sought, but never in the house because it has a horrifying smell. The tree is also a historic symbol of magick and farie and welcoming in happiness and spiritual grounding. I think this is why Nematona is associated with the tree.

The Making of : The Snowy Owl – Card #2

In this series, I want to tell you the story of how I create each of my cards. Think of this as my Guidebook to my personal deck of cards. As I create new ones, I’ll share more stories. You’ve got at least 22 weeks of stories coming your way, one each week. The majority of my cards are created in Inktense pencils on watercolor paper and these are their creation stories.

The Snowy Owl

Spirit Animal

Have you been feeling overwhelmed or on info overload? It’s time to get grounded and meditate. Stop looking to outside sources for approval or guidance. You have everything you need inside, you just need to listen to that inner guidance system, your inner wisdom. When you listen, you’ll get clear, you’ll observe, you’ll wait for the right moment. Expect more clairvoyant and clairaudient messages giving you the direction.

The Inspiration for this Card

The dream I had on that night was different. As with most of my dreams, the storylines are strange, nothing that would happen in real life, nothing that makes sense, things that must be unraveled in order to understand their messages. However, this time, the message was clear as day. Whoever said this to me in the dream said: “Your Spirit Guide is the Snowy Owl”. While the image of a snowy owl came flying at me. I’ve had plenty of animals in my dreams and they always had a message for me, but it’s never been such a clear message before. That’s why it stood out so well.

The Meaning of the Owl

The owl is a symbol of wisdom, it’s a symbol of the inner wisdom you hold. When an Owl appears, it means you’ve been spending too much time on sensory overload, you need to get quiet. The Owl sits high in the trees, seeing everything that goes on around her. She waits for the perfect moment to take action on her desired prey. Many times we need to do the same thing with our desired programs or goals. Wait, watch, then act.

The Making of : The Flamingo – Card #1

I want to tell you the story of how I create each of my cards. Each one is unique and has a different story to tell. Think of this as my Guidebook to my personal deck of cards. As I create new ones, I’ll share more stories. You’ve got at least 22 weeks of stories coming your way, one each week. The majority of my cards are created in Inktense pencils on watercolor paper and these are their creation stories. I’ll kick this journey off with the first card I created and go from there.

The Flamingo

Mother Earth Magick

Take time to do things that inspire you, see the wonders of the world all around you. Explore nature and fill your life with beauty  – it will re-energize you. When you fill your cup with nature, you let go of the chaos around you, you raise your vibration and surround yourself with the high vibes of nature. In this space you can be honest with yourself and what you desire. When you’re rooted into nature, you can hear your intuition more clearly, you can acknowledge your desires and release any judgments you or those around you might have in any other situation. When you’re clear on your desires, take inspired action.

The Inspiration for this Card

This came to me in a dream, as many of my cards do. There were thousands of flamingos flying across the sky and I was there to capture the moment on camera. I was standing on a wooden boardwalk, overlooking a river and marshy lands, with low trees and shrub as the backdrop. It was magic. Absolutely breathtaking. Being one with the magic of Mother Earth and all of her creations. It stuck with me so much that I can still picture myself in this dream. I can picture the lighting, the sun was setting and there was an orange-green tint to the atmosphere, the colors of flamingos flying overhead added in pink, but their bodies blotted out much of the light. It’s dreams like this that find themselves on cards because even after waking up, I still remember the details, even after over a year since I had it, I still remember.

The Meaning of the Flamingo

The flamingos themselves can mean a few different things. You need to follow your inner truth, get clear on what it is you desire and what your true North looks like. Embrace the in-between of where you are right now and that inner truth of what you desire. The flamingo is here to remind you to stay true to yourself and get creative, take the photos, draw the pictures, bake the treats, write the prayers, etc. When you let this creativity out, Flamingo will reveal the magic.

The 3 Reasons Why I Create My Own Angel Cards

If you've been following me and Studio429, you've probably seen my Angel Oracle card pictures on Instagram or on my Facebook page. I've been making them for a little over a year now and have really enjoyed the process. But I realized that I never really sat down to tell you why I love it. That is what I want to do today, share the story of why I create my own Angel Cards.

1. I love to create. I am an artist.

Simple, right? I make my own cards because I'm an artist and I love to create. I love to collect other decks because of the artwork as much as I like the messages.

Making my own cards means a trip to the art supply store, choosing the paper, cutting them to size, picking the pencils, creating the imagery. I get to see the process from start to finish and that feels so good. I get to spend time in my office creating these cards and that is time well spent. I love this process of receiving the message, envisioning the images, and then getting them out of my head and onto paper.

It's inspiring and makes me appreciate the artwork that goes into all the other decks out there even more.

2. Developing my intuition has been incredible

Using decks I've collected develops intuition of course. Getting grounded, asking your Guides questions, receiving the messages through the cards, of course, helps develop your senses. However, it's a whole different game when you make your cards from scratch. You must center yourself and connect deep enough to listen for the messages without any tools. Or at least no visual tools (your cards). I consider meditations, journaling, candles, crystals, and other such items tools to help you connect. I don't have a card with words or images telling me what my message is through. I must listen, get it out on paper and design my own imagery that goes with it. The listening takes practice

I create the images and then I write the message down in my own guidebook note in Evernote (highly recommended app for creatives with tons of ideas running through their heads). The process is beautiful and in doing it over and over, I've learned the ways my guides connect with me. I've learned to listen.

3. It's my own unique deck

This deck is 100% my own. My own messages specifically for me. Now, there are other decks that I've purchased that I LOVE, that I connect to, but there is just something different about my own. About knowing the specific stories behind each card that I've created. Each one came from a dream, or a difficult moment, or a reminder from the Universe. With each one, I recall the memories and emotions from that time. I can't say that about the decks I've purchased because they were created by someone else, from their perspectives, memories and channeled messages.

There you have it. The 3 reasons why I create my own Angel Cards. I love every minute of the process and that is why I love to share this process. I want you to experience these things too. I want you to experience the joys of creating, connecting to your guides and making something uniquely your own.
